How to Design Window Curtains
Designing your own window curtains can give you something for your home made uniquely by you. You can get ideas from looking through design books, or looking through expensive shops. You will more than likely spend much less on the curtains by making them yourself.
- Decide on what styles of curtains you like. You can choose from traditional, country or modern. Decide if your room needs more or less light. A valance lets in a lot of light, but does not insulate the window well. Panels can be pulled back during the day, and closed at night. Do you want a patterned curtain or do the walls in the room already have a lot of pattern? Answers to these types of questions will help you decide on how to design your window curtains.
- Visit a fabric store to get some more ideas on what types of window curtains you want to design. Look at books on how to make curtains. Look at some stylebooks showing you different types of curtains you can design. You can take home samples if you need to match colors. Most fabric stores will give you a small swatch of fabric, or charge you very little for it.
- When looking at different fabrics, you can mix and match once you know what you are doing. Look at the fabrics in the room you are making the curtains for. Is there a large or small pattern, wide stripes or thin stripes. Pick out the main colors that you want in a fabric and go from there.
