How to Hook Up a Car CD Player in a Room
If you take your car's CD player out of your vehicle, you probably are wondering what you should do with it. You can give it away, let it sit in your house or wait to connect it to another vehicle. Surprisingly, you can also hook it in your home with little hassle.
Items Needed:
- CD player
- Insulated wire splices
- Wire crimpers
- RCA cables
- Wire cutters
- Wire strippers
- 12v AC adapter
- Remove the stereo from its current location in the dash of your car.
- Remove one-quarter inch of insulation from the blue, yellow and black wires. Entwine the blue and yellow wires to one another. Use a 16-gauge insulated connector and connect one to each wire.
- Remove the plug component-end plug from the 12-volt adapter. You just need to cut it. Change the switch on the adapter, so it is on the 12 volts option. Using a wire stripper, remove one-quarter inch of the insulation from both wires. Using a wire crimper, adhere the wire that is black with a white stripe to the solid black wire located on the radio’s harness.
- Connect the solid black wire with the blue/yellow wires using the wire crimpers. The blue/yellow wires are the ones you connected together earlier.
- Trim the speaker wire to the necessary length. Remove one-quarter inch of insulation from each end of the wire. Strip one-quarter inch of insulation from the green wire with the wire cutters. Additionally, do the same for the gray wire.
- Attach the negative speaker wire on the left to the green speaker wire that has black dashes on it. The positive speaker wire will connect to the speaker lead that is solid green in color.
- Connect the right speak with the gray wires, just as you did the other connections.
- Plug in the RCA cable to the back of the stereo and the other end of the wires to the speakers or other external amplification device.
