How to Make Mulled Wine

Nothing is better than the flavor of heated mulled wine during the winter months. The wine is filled with spices and other ingredients, which are heated and not boiled. The best type of wine to use in this recipe is a dark red wine to get the best flavor.

Materials Needed

  • Pot

  • Large bowl

  • 4 oranges

  • 1 large lemon

  • 2 cinnamon sticks (3 inches long)

  • 2 bottles dark red wine

  • Cup

  • Spoon

  • Sugar or honey

  • Glasses

  1. Place a large pot on the stove. Set a large bowl on the counter. Take one of the small oranges and place three cloves into it by cutting a hole into the top or the side of it using a knife. Do this with two more of the small oranges. Place the three oranges in the pot.

  2. Shave the peel off of the fourth orange and place the peels into the pot. Squeeze the juice from this orange into a cup.

  3. Shave the peel off of the lemon. Place the shavings into the pot. Squeeze the juice from the lemon into the cup with the orange juice.

  4. Place two cinnamon sticks in the pot on the stove. Make sure the sticks are 3 inches in length.

  5. Open two bottles of dark red wine and pour the wine into the pot. Turn on the stove and heat the wine but make sure the wine does not come to a boil.

  6. Turn off the stove and remove the pot from the flame. Stir the liquid with a spoon. Use care around the oranges in the pot.

  7. Pour the orange and lemon juice into the pot. Stir the liquid with spoon. Pour in wither or sugar or honey until you reach the taste you desire. Stir the mulled wine. Warm the glasses you will be using. Carefully pour the mulled wine into the glasses and serve the wine while it is still hot.
