How to Make a Desktop Photo Studio

Having a desktop photo studio is great for taking photos of smaller objects or taking a detailed photograph at a close range. Applicants that this is most helpful include Ebay , still life photography and recording valuable items for insurance purposes.

What You'll Need:

  • Photography model

  • 3-foot by 4-foot length of craft paper in white or color

  • Masking tape

  • 1-yard tulle or sheer curtain

  • Kitchen chair

  • Camera with built-in light meter

  1. Gather all of your materials into one room that has a large window that allows for lots of bright ambient sunlight.

  2. Use masking tape to tape a diffuse material like a curtain sheer or tulle onto the window casement. Completing this step will help to diffuse any harsh shadows that may be caused as the result of the direct sunlight.

  3. Align the chair so that the ambient sunlight will fall most brightly all across the seating platform. This form of lighting will serve as a great substitute for more expensive home studio lights.

  4. Use measuring tape to tape the craft paper onto the rear portion of the chair and roll it out all across the seat. Once you've completed this step you've now created a seamless backdrop.

  5. Arrange the model you plan to photograph on the seat of the chair.

  6. You can use the light from the camera meter in order to adjust the light to the optimal exposure then you are ready to take the photograph.
