How to Make an Alcohol Ice Pack
Everyone knows how to make their own homemade ice packs by placing ice cubes and a little bit of water into a sealable plastic bag. However, these ice packs cannot be easily reused and don’t shape well to body parts. An alcohol ice pack is flexible, easy to reuse and simple to make. These steps will teach you how to make your own alcohol ice pack.
Things You’ll Need:
- Measuring cups
- Water
- Rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol)
- Resealable freezer safe bags
- Freezer
Steps:
- Measure out three parts water to one part rubbing alcohol. These amounts will vary depending upon how big of an ice pack you want. The alcohol in the mixture will prevent it from freezing solid and will make the ice pack flexible. Drinking alcohol will also work in a pinch, but try to choose something with a high proof or adjust the ratio so that you will still get a sufficient amount of alcohol in the mix.
- Pour the mixture into your resealable freezer safe bag. You can use any size bag you wish to customize your ice pack,as long as the mixture fits well in the bag.
- Seal the bag and try to get most of the air out.
- Place the bag in the freezer for at least an hour before you use the ice pack.
- Remove the alcohol ice pack when you are ready to use it. If applying to the skin, use for no longer than 20 minutes at a time to prevent frostbite or other serious injuries. You can also wrap the ice pack in a towel to minimize injury risk.
- Return the ice pack to the freezer when you are done using it, so it will be ready for the next time you need it.
