How to Mount a Snow Blade

People use many types of vehicles to plow snow. They all have different but similar ways of mounting a snow blade. This project is very easy to accomplish if you have the right tools. Plowing your own snow versus hiring someone will help you save a lot of money.

Things You'll Need:

  • Bolts

  • Nuts

  • Torque Wrench

  • Wrench

  • Blade Instructions

  1. Install the blade brackets on your vehicles frame. Make sure you install them on the actual frame and not the front bumper. The weight of the blade will cause the bracket to break off the frame. You might even need to remove the front bumper for easier access to the frame. Usually these brackets are attached with nuts and bolts. Make sure the bracket is attached high enough so the blade has at least a few inches of clearance on the ground when it's not in the plowing position.

  2. Attach the snow plow blade to the bracket. The blade should easily attach to the bracket with the same type of nuts and bolts you used previously. Refer to your blades instructions to see if the bolts need to be tightened with a torque wrench at a specific number of foot pounds. If the bolts don't need torque, make sure they are safely tightened with a regular wrench.

  3. Attach the lifting arm to the snow blade. This arm is used to lower the blade for plowing and raising it for regular driving.

  4. Test your snow plow blade before actually plowing any snow. Make sure the blade moves up and down easily and is sturdy when driving around.
