How to Organize Cable Channels Without a Cable Box
Cable boxes automatically organize channels so that they are matched up with local network guides and pre-programmed television guides. If you are not getting your television channel through a cable box, you can still organize the channels by using the auto program menu option.
- Locate the coaxial input on the back of your television set. The coaxial cable should be attached to your wall cable outlet. Attach the end of the cable to the input plug, and twist the coaxial connector to the right to tighten it and hold it securely in place.
- Turn on the television and access the menu. If you have a remote, there may be a button on it labeled "Menu" or "Setup." Push this button to access the menu. Use the channel and volume buttons to navigate through the menu. Select the "Channel" or "Setup" option.
- Choose the "Auto program" option. Allow the television to run through all the channels. Once it comes to the end, it will likely display the lowest channel available. Use the channel buttons to navigate through the channels to make sure they are all coming in clearly.
- Contact your local cable company to determine which channels you should be getting and which ones are not on your program list. If the channels are not showing up or are not coming in properly, attempt to use auto program again. You can also check to make sure the coaxial cable is tight enough. If you cannot get the channels you should be getting, ask the cable company to come out and inspect your cable lines.
