How to Personalize Wine Glasses

Personalized wine glasses make a great gift for weddings or bridal showers, but ordering them can be expensive. If you can't afford to purchase personalized wine glasses, or if you just want to be creative, you can make your own at home.

Items Needed:

  • Air dry or thermo-hardening paint

  • Paintbrush or sponge

  • Painter's tape

  • Stencils

  • Wine glasses

  • Dish detergent

  • Towel

  1. Decide whether you want the glasses to be used for drinking or as a decoration or keepsake. Drinking glasses require a different paint and process than those that are used as a decoration or keepsake item.

  2. Wash the glasses with a mild dish detergent and allow them to air dry, or use a soft towel to dry them. The paint will adhere better to clean glasses.

  3. Purchase a stencil from your local craft store. The stencil should be small enough to fit on the glass and allow the entire name or initial to be painted on it.

  4. Place the stencil on the inside of the glass. Look through the glass from the outside, and position the stencil where you want the name to be displayed. Use painter's tape to hold the stencil in place.

  5. Dip a paintbrush or sponge in the paint, and use it to paint the area inside the stencil. Allow it to dry. Check the paint to determine whether it needs another coat. If so, apply the second coat and allow it to dry. Remove the stencil and tape.

  6. Allow the paint to dry overnight if personalizing the wine glasses as a keepsake. If personalizing them as drinking glasses, allow the glass to dry for 48 hours. Bake the wine glasses in an oven for the time and temperature recommended on the paint instructions.
