How to Plan an Ice Cream Social
By taking time to plan an ice cream social, you can host a fun summer get together that your friends and family will enjoy. Almost everyone loves ice cream, and your celebration will provide a relaxing way to spend a hot, summer day.
Things You’ll Need:
- Invitations
- Ice cream
- Toppings
- Beverages
- Decorations
- Select a date and time for your ice cream social. Plan at least a month in advance to give your guests enough time to prepare. Choose a date and time during which most people are available, such as Sunday at 3:00 pm, or Friday at 7:00 pm.
- Decide where you are going to host your party, such as your backyard, a nearby park or your living room. If you select a location outside, determine a back up spot, in the event that it rains. Call the venue to book your event for the date and time you selected, if you’re not hosting it at your own residence.
- Write out a guest list of the people you plan to invite, so you don’t leave anyone out. When planning your guest list, ensure that you invite only people who you think will enjoy the event and who not prone to create drama.
- Purchase or create invitations to send out to your guests. Select cards designed to commemorate the occasion. You can use cute cursive fonts, and invitations printed with images of ice cream cones, or pictures of people eating ice cream.
- Write the occasion, date, time and note the date by which guests must RSVP on the invitations. Be sure to include a request for your guests to RSVP at least a week in advance, so you’ll know how many guests are coming, and how much ice cream to buy. Make sure that your writing is legible.
- Address your invitations and proofread them to ensure that they are properly addressed. Then mail the invitations to your guests.
- Buy decorations such as streamers, posters, confetti or lights that will liven up the atmosphere.
- Shop for ice cream, ice cream cones, dishes and toppings, once you have an accurate head count. Select a variety of ice cream flavors, and fun toppings such as whipped cream, sprinkles, candy and nuts. Also, purchase beverages such as soda, juice, or bottled water.
- Set aside two hours before your guests are scheduled to arrive to decorate the location at which you are holding the party. You may need to enlist the assistance of a friend to help decorate.
- Wait until all your guests have all arrived, and then bring out the ice cream and toppings. Don’t set out the ice cream too early, or it might melt.
