How to Prevent Skin Diseases
Treating skin diseases after they occur can be annoying and difficult. Some diseases of the skin are impossible to cure. Not all skin diseases are preventable; however, for those that are, there are a variety of techniques and tips available to keep your skin healthy.
- When it comes to taking a shower, avoid standing directly under running water while you're soaping up. Use an antibacterial soap to lather up your entire body and let it sit for at least ten seconds. Rinse off with hot water, as hot as you can tolerate. If you bathe instead, then take a brief shower to clean off any dirt that might have collected in the bath water. Bathing and showering removes bacteria that multiply in body sweat and which can not only lead to body odor, but can cause the skin to become mottled.
- Avoid sharing any fabrics that someone else has used. This includes clothes, towels and washcloths. Also, do not sleep in beds that others (besides your significant other or spouse) have slept in. Thoroughly wash all strangers' bed sheets and other fabrics before using them. This will help to prevent you from catching serious skin diseases such as scabies.
- Use a disinfectant spray on any toilet before you use it, or place one or two toilet seat guard sheets as a barrier between it and you. If the toilet looks too filthy, then avoid using it at all. This will help to avoid problems such as crabs.
- Use sun screen when you are outside for long periods of time. This will reduce your risk of sunburn, or developing skin cancer.
