How to Reconnect Cable Service at Pole
If you are experiencing a temporary loss of service with your cable, your cable service provider will likely send out a technician to handle it. Most times, they don't even need to enter your home because the work that they need to do is involved outside on the closest pole.
- Figure out which method is being used for the cable. There are two types of connections for cable. One is the wire that goes to the side of the house in a smal SDU box. The second one is an underground cable that runs from the street to an area in your yard.
- Use a ladder. If you do not have a ladder to reach high enough on the pole, then you will need to use gaffs. These are straps that attach to your work boots and allow you to keep your balance while you climb high areas. In addition to the gaffs, you will also need a climbing belt.
- Use an F- connector to reconnect the cable. You need to connect it to the tap. The tap is a device that is mounted on the main line and has a port to plug into.
- Use a span clamp cable to mount the cable. This cable runs through the house. You need to allow some slack on both ends and then put a clamp on each end. Next, double-up the house line about 2 feet and then insert another clamp. This will allow you to still receive a signal during high winds and inclement weather.
- Secure the clamp you put by the house with screws. Next, weatherproof the screws with silicone.
- Put the cable inside the weather-proofed hole you created. You may notice that the SDU has been mounted from a past installation. If so, you do not need to add any additional screws to it unless it appears loose.
- Reconnect the cables. Attach them to the splitter in the SDU box. Next, attach the same line that you installed from the pole to the splitter as well.
