How to Reduce the Risks of Cardiovascular Disease

Proper care of your body should be taken to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.  To reduce these risks, quit smoking right away and exercise your body on a regular basis.  Also, eat nutritious foods and keep cholesterol and weight at a proper level.

  • Quit smoking to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.  Smoking doubles your risk by placing stress on your heart and filling your body with toxins.  Purchase nicotine products like the ones offered by Nicoderm to help you stop smoking.

  • Exercise at least two or three times a weak to keep your heart healthy.  Consider mild exercise like walking or enroll in an aerobics class at your local gym.  This movement provides a healthy body and circulatory system reducing the risk of heart disease.

  • Eat a diet that is rich in vitamins and nutrients for good health.  Choose foods like vegetables, fruits, and whole grains to provide this. Reduce your fat intake as well, because high fat foods are bad for your heart.

  • Maintain weight that is healthy for your height and frame.  Consult with your doctor if you are unsure what your weight should be.  This is important for heart health because excess weight can add stress to your heart.  If you are overweight, consider a diet and exercise plan to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.

  • Keep your cholesterol under control for heart health.  Cholesterol should be checked often according to the direction of your doctor.  This is done with a simple blood test. If cholesterol is high, ask your doctor about medicines that can be taken to lower it.
