How to Sell Recording Equipment
Sound engineers, musicians and recording studio owners use special equipment to create, mix and reproduce music. With items ranging from soundboards to multi-track recorders, this type of equipment can be expensive. Thus, you can usually receive a fair price when selling used recording gear.
- Research the equipment on the Internet to determine a fair price. Look at past auction sales, or check online classified ads for similar equipment. In addition, notice the pricing on new recording equipment and calculate a value that includes depreciation for wear and tear.
- Ensure the equipment works properly. Try each module to make sure the soundboard operates correctly, and examine the digital workstation, microphones and recorder as well.
- Gather paperwork for the equipment. Find purchase receipts, warranty information and repair bills.
- Take photographs of the recording equipment. Use good lighting, and take shots from multiple angles.
- Sell the recording equipment online. List the items on popular classified or auction websites. Include an accurate description, as well as photographs.
- Advertise the item in your community's newspapers. Alternately, create a flyer with a photograph, description, price and your contact information to hang at local music stores.
- Contact music stores in your town. In some cases, stores selling used instruments and equipment will buy the merchandise outright or offer a consignment deal. With consignments, you receive a portion of the asking price when the items sell.
- Pawn the equipment. While this route is the simplest, you will not make as much money.
