How to Set Up DJ Equipment
DJing is a fun, exciting activity for many people who love being in a large, energetic atmosphere and who have a love for music. Some may DJ as a side activity, offering their skills at wedding celebrations, formal dances or large parties. Others can also make a decent living DJing at popular night clubs. Being a DJ means owning the necessary electronic equipment and knowing how to set it all up.
Because DJing is an activity that is often done for a variety of events and in different types of venues, the set up for a DJ booth or table may vary slightly. Some variants may be required depending on the size of the venue and logistics. The process outlined below is for a standard DJ table set up for a night club setting. It will also work for most wedding receptions and parties.
Items Needed:
- 2 standard industry turntables
- Power strip
- 1 2-Channel mixer
- 2 Record needles
- Slipmats
- Records
Instructions:
1. Find a flat surface to place your main equipment on. A table at about waist height is ideal.
2. Place the slipmats on the table, giving your equipment a stable base to rest on.
3. Lay out your two turntables and mixer on the table with the mixer placed in between the turntables.
4. Plug the turntables into the power strip.
5. Locate the ground wire and phono cords that are on each of the turntables. The phono cords resemble a standard RCA plug-in and the ground wire is identifiable by having a metal plug on the tip.
6. Plug the phono cords into appropriately marked "phono" input in the back of the mixer.
7. Connect the ground wires behind the mixer as well.
8. Plug the mixer into the power source.
9. Test out your equipment to make sure the setup is working.
