How to Set Up PC Speakers

If you have a new computer you will need to set up your PC speakers. Speakers are simple to setup and only takes a few minutes to connect them to your PC. Once you have the speakers set up, you can use the settings in Windows to adjust the volume and sound levels. You can learn how to set up PC speakers in a few short steps.

  1. Connect the speakers to the back of your PC. The speaker wires are color-coded and are usually green. You should see a green port on the back of your computer that matches the color on the end of the speaker wire.  The port may also be labeled with a speaker symbol.

  2. Click the “Start” button, click “Control Panel,” click “Hardware and Sound,” and then click the “Manage Audio Devices” link. Double-click the “Speakers” icon.

  3. Click the “Levels” tab, and then move the slider to adjust the volume of your speakers. If you see a small red “X” located on the speaker button, click the “X” to activate your speakers.

  4. Click the “Balance” button to adjust the balance of the speakers. Adjust the sliders for the left and right speakers to adjust the sound between the speakers.

  5. Click the “Advanced” tab. Select your speaker setup and click the “Test” button. This will run a test on your speaker setup to make sure it is working properly. It will show you if you should adjust any of the volume levels on the speakers.

  6. Click “OK” three times to save the changes you made to the settings, and to close the dialog boxes that are open.

  7. Insert a CD into your computer’s CD/DVD drive, or navigate to a video on the Internet, and make sure your speakers are working correctly.
