How to Set Up Your Satellite TV System Anywhere

Camping out away from civilization does not necessarily mean that you have to miss your favorite shows.  If the blinking TIVO indicator waiting for you at home just isn’t enough, rest assured that you do not have to wait until you return to get caught up.  Some satellite or cable providers even allow you to access your receiver remotely.  Check with your provider for available options.

Ensure that you have active satellite service, a satellite dish and receiver, a television, and portable power supply.  If you have the necessary equipment as well as electronic chords needed for setup, you can take your satellite TV service with you anywhere.

  • Setup your television.  A television is, of course, an electronic device, and will need to be connected to a portable power supply, so take this into account when you choose a location for your television.  Connect the television to the satellite receiver.

  • Setup your satellite dish.  Since you are on the move, a portable satellite dish is required.  Be certain to bring the operating manual with you to assist in setup.  The dish should be placed in a place that will give it a clear view of the sky in the direction dictated by your satellite service provider.  Once your dish is setup and the signal has been located, connect your satellite dish to the satellite receiver.

  • Check the connections to the television and receiver, and turn on the television.  A message will display indicating that the satellite is locating a signal.  The signal meters will indicate the total signal strength.  Keep in mind that anything over 80% is considered a strong signal.  If your signal is less than 80%, it will be necessary to re-position the satellite dish to increase signal strength.  Once a strong signal strength has been established, complete any additional setup steps that display on the screen.

  • Contact your service provider to determine program portability.  If you are able to access your programming remotely, your provider will give you the details to be able to access your favorite programs from a laptop, or other portable device.  Take the information with you along with your portable device, and begin enjoying!
