How to Repair a Satellite TV

Many people watch TV through a satellite system whether it be their own or from a satellite provider. There are many things that can happen to the dish to prevent it from working properly. If the dish belongs to a provider you can call them for repairs. If it is your dish you need to know how to repair it yourself.

  • A quick test of the receiver is to unplug it for at least 30 seconds and then plug it back in again.

  • Check to see if everything in the house is plugged in and turned on. If you are receiving a picture and the quality is poor it could be the alignment of the dish. If you are getting no signal at all make certain all your cables are hooked up.

  • If the dish is out of alignment and you know where it should be you can re-position the dish and it should solve the problem. If you cannot remember where it was you could experiment by changing the position using the help of someone watching the TV inside.

  • It is possible that snow can cause enough of an obstruction to prevent the signal. If there is snow or ice on the dish remove it and see if you are receiving a signal once again.

  • Any object placed in front of your dish will also block the signal. Check to see if that is the problem.

  • If you own the satellite you can call the manufacturer and they may have some suggestions or may even have someone who works on their equipment nearby.
