How to Use 240V Music Equipment With 110V Power

The electricity that American consumers have access to is often a different voltage than in other countries across the world. Musical equipment created overseas may require a device that can change voltage from 110V to 240V. These devices are voltage converters and can be bought at several hardware stores.

  1. Look for the wattage that is required to run the musical equipment. When it comes to amplifiers, this is the input wattage instead of output wattage. To find the input wattage, look on the back of the amplifier (usually underneath the voltage marking) or you can look in the owner's manual.

  2. Buy a voltage converter that is made to transform 110V to 240V. Be sure it is converting the voltage in the proper manner (from 110V wall socket to a 240V supply) and that it can use at least as much wattage as your musical equipment requires to run. If you buy a converter that isn’t strong enough, it can be ruined.

  3. Insert the converter into an electrical socket and put the musical equipment in the converter. Make sure both connections are secure.

  4. Turn on the power for the converter. Make sure you turn on the musical equipment as well. Hopefully, the equipment is working just fine. Once you see that the equipment is working properly, you have completed the task. Using 240V music equipment with 110 volt power is a great way to get the most of your equipment. Your music is guaranteed to sound strong and clear with the new setup.
