How to Use a Burner in a Fondue Set
Fondue sets allow you to melt and heat cheese, chocolate and cooking oils in order to prepare delicious meals and desserts. They utilize a burner to maintain the proper amount of heat to avoid burning or cooking the food in question. These burners utilize one of three different fuel sources and are relatively easy to use.
Things You Will Need:
- Fondue stand
- Fondue burner
- Cover for fondue burner
- 2 to 3 ounces of your fuel of choice
- Match
- Determine your fuel source. Fondue burners can utilize alcohol or gel fuel sources. You can purchase more expensive butane burners, as well, which will allow you to adjust the heat setting for your fondue set. In most cases, your set will come equipped with an alcohol or gel fuel burner, so we will concentrate on these two types. Obtain 2 to 3 ounces of your required fuel source.
- Fill the burner base with fuel. Add 2 ounces of fuel for one hour of burning time. If you plan to burn the fondue set longer than an hour, you can add 3 ounces and allow the burner to run for up to one and a half hours.
- Move the burner safely. Place the cover on the burner before picking it up and moving it. Once it is covered, you can move it to the fondue stand. Set the burner on the fondue stand and ensure that it is secure. Once it is properly placed, remove the burner cover.
- Ignite the fuel. It is important that you only use a lighted match to ignite the fuel. Do not use a lighter. Light the match and carefully move it towards the center of the burner. The fuel will catch the flame and ignite.
- Adjust the flame by moving the handle on the base. You can raise or lower the level of the flame simply by moving the handle accordingly. When you are finished with your fondue set, simply place the burner cover on the burner to put out the flames.
