How to Use a Fondue Pot
Fondue pots are fun and easy to use. You can serve an appetizer, a meal or even dessert depending on what you put in the fondue pot. The process is similar for each one but be careful anytime you are using an open flame to cook.
Things You'll Need:
- A fondue pot
- Denatured alcohol or fondue fuel
- A long fondue fork for each guest
- Plates
- Knives and forks
- Dipping sauces
- Decide on what you want to serve. There are many different fondue recipes to choose from. A classic cheese sauce with bread and vegetables for dipping is a good choice for an appetizer. For a main course, heat oil or broth in the fondue pot and serve small pieces of meat or fish. Finally, for a dessert use chocolate sauce with fruit and small pieces of angel food cake or marshmallows.
- Make sure to place the fondue pot on a level surface or table and use a heat resistant pad or wooden cutting board to protect the surface of the table.
- Heat the cheese sauce, oil or chocolate on the stove. Once the desired temperature according to the recipe is reached, transfer it to the fondue pot. If cooking with oil, heat it in the fondue pot on the stove. Never try to transfer hot oil from one pot to another.
- Fill the alcohol burner with denatured alcohol or liquid fondue fuel. Never overfill the burner. Use 3 ounces for a burn time of approximately an hour and a half. If less heating time is needed, use less fuel.
- Clean any spilled alcohol immediately and remove the container of fuel before lighting the burner. Put the burner in the stand and light with a match. Keep the burner cover close by and place on top of the burner to extinguish the flame. Never move the burner once it has been lit.
- Place the fondue pot on the stand above the burner.
- Use the fondue forks to dip the foods into the fondue pot and enjoy.
