Will Print-On-Demand Produce High Quality Work?

The development of the personal computer revolutionized nearly every industry, and traditional printing is no exception. Until the late 1980s, professional printing was done on large offset or web printing presses using printing plates. Which are expensive to set up. If you printed just one page on an offset press it would be very expensive. This was because of the need for prepress, film, match prints, plates, striping, and make ready pre-runs. After you start the printing the cost per piece is very cheap. That is why you would need to print so many pieces to get the cost down per piece. The problem with that was things change. Most of the leftovers would end up in the dump, or in a warehouse that you kept to store all that paper. With “On Demand Printing” there is no set up cost. It is not needed. The digital file is sent to the printer just like you would do it from your printer at home. The difference between your printer at home and a commercial digital press is SPEED and COST and to some extent quality although the quality of home printers is just about the same now days. The cost per piece for on-demand printing is much less for the first thousand pieces and most of the time you don’t need more than a thousand pieces. With on-demand printing you print only what you need to meet your market demand. This technology is great for publishers as it enables them to print both paperback and hardcover books “on demand” as orders are received, rather than doing large print runs that sit in warehouses, waiting for orders. Print-on-demand book technology helps reduce costs by printing books specific to each bookseller’s order. Because there are no big up-front printing costs, As far as quality go’s there are some trade offs… but the trade offs are so small with the new equipment and a skilled operator that it is usually not an issue.

What is Quark Express?

Quark is a page layout program. Most designers use a number of tools to create their graphics. Freehand and Illustrator are/were used for creating line drawings and Logos as well as some very complex Illustrations. They use vector information as their way of describing information to other devises. Photoshop or other photo programs deal with information in a completely different way. They are raster files, and are used to create art that is much more like paintings or photos. The two deferent ways of creating art are not easy to work with together. SO… if you are creating a newsletter of flyer that uses a photo and a vector logo it is easier to work with them in a program that is designed to except as many file format as possible. That is what quark does well. And it lets you position these file with text so that your designs are only limited by your imagination not the file types that you work with. There are many other advantages to using these page layout programs but this is why they were created.

Small local productions or community theatre groups

Most community theaters have a members list. You can get on this members list in many ways. The best way is to become a volunteer. You can also pay a small fee. That will get you in the door. If there is a production you want to get involved in just talk to the director of that production. If you hang out long enough soon you will get put into something. And then you will hear a sucking sound. When you here that your in!

Businesses printing company newsletters

The world of printing and design has changed dramatically over the last 20 years. But most of the marking concepts have stayed the same. A newsletter is the portal to your business and your customers will decide if it is just another piece of junk mail of a pleasant bit of reading. A number of elements go into providing a quality newsletter. Printing and mailing are just one of them. Yes, you should have it printed and mailed by professionals in the field. In todays "we can do it our selfs" world most companies never see the type of results they created a newsletter to provide. A newsletter requires a skill set beyond the ability of most small businesses. Marketing and Design as well as effective writing are just a few more of the pieces besides printing. If you are planing a newsletter take the time to do it right. Ask yourself a few questions. 1. Is this something I want to do every month for the life of the business? 2. Do I have enough information to fill a newsletter every month or quarter? 3. Can I write well enough to keep someone's interest and not embarrass by business. 4. Do I have the type of business that a newsletter will make stronger. 5. Is there other benefits that I can give my costumer though my newsletter that will add loyalty. 6. Do I have the marketing skills and design skills to not embarrass by business. These are just a few of the questions you need to ask when starting a newsletter. Also make sure you have your brand defined before you start. If you still believe that a newsletter is right for your business then save your money and find a professional Marketing person and a Graphic Designer and put out a newsletter your company can be proud of. The newsletter should be a tool for increasing brand awareness and to position you in a place different from your competition. There are so many elements to putting a quality newsletter in the hands of others. Printing provides the final peace of the project. But the old adage of "garbage in garbage out" still holds true, and the quality of the printing wont change that.
