How Does Asthma Affect the Body?
Asthma affects the body in many ways, but the most notable affect is the ability to breath easily. The disease is a lung disorder in which airways are restricted or narrowed by swelling. The swelling often produces wheezing, coughing and chest tightness. Suffers of this chronic disorder often seek ways to treat it.
Asthma is a chronic disease that affects over 30 million people worldwide. The disorder causes the airways to swell and impacts people's lives in different ways, but their bodies feel many of the same effects.
The primary harm caused by asthma is in the lungs. Sufferers deal with lifelong coughing and wheezing in which breathing is affected. The inability to breath effectively can lead to tiredness, infections and even death.
Asthma also cause predispositions to infections. Those diagnoised with asthma are often linked to having more cases of breathing infections and viruses such as pneumonia or bronchitis. This can lead to weaker immune systems and immunity to normally effective antibiotics.
To this day, there is not cure for asthma, but it can be treated. Most patients are treated with an inhaled steroid. This works by reducing the swelling in the airways. There are side effects to these medicines. Hoarseness is the most common side effect. Other things include slowed growth in children and lack of bone density in adults. Asthma is not a disease to be taken lightly. It can be hard to live with, but it is a manageable disease.
