How to Buy a Travel Trailer
A travel trailer is a fun vehicle to have for camping or spending time in away from home. The trailer attaches to the back of a vehicle that the owner uses to tow it. Travel trailers are available in different sizes with many different features and options to choose for the interior.
- Choose the type of travel trailer to buy. Do some online research to compare different models to help you make a decision. You also need to decide whether to buy a new or used trailer and how much to spend on the purchase. Use an online loan calculator to find out the monthly payment on the amount you want to finance.
- Apply for a pre-approval loan at a local bank. Once you receive an approval you can decide on the type of travel trailer to buy. Ask the loan officer at the bank to give you a maximum price for the trailer and then start looking for one to buy that is under that amount.
- Go to a trailer dealership and ask to speak with a salesperson. Review the dealer’s inventory to decide which trailers you like best. Inspect the trailers you like to help you narrow down your choices. Look for trailers that are within your price range and then decide which one to buy.
- Find out if the dealership offers financing. You may be able to get a lower interest rate than what your bank offers by using the dealer’s financing source. Talk with the dealer’s finance manager to find out the current interest rate. Apply for a loan and have the manager submit the application.
- Compare the loan approvals you receive to determine which lending source to use. Find out the monthly payment amount that both sources offer. Complete the loan paperwork with the lender you choose and arrange to take delivery of the trailer.
