How to Drill Holes in Concrete Blocks

Concrete blocks are very strong in durable, but can be drilled through fairly easily with the right type of drill and drill bit. Regular drill bits can be used to drill through concrete, but they are likely to break and not drill the right size hole. It is best to use a hammer drill bit to drill through concrete blocks at a fast pace.

Step 1: Attach the masonry drill bit to the hammer drill. The bit should slide into place easily and making a snap sound when it is secure.

Step 2: Turn the hammer drill's switch to the "Hammer" position. Most hammer drills have a regular function and a hammer function. The hammer function should be use to drill into concrete blocks or bricks

Step 3: Place the tip of the drill bit against the spot on the concrete block where you want the hole to be drilled. Press the trigger to begin drilling the hole. The drill may become hard to hold as the hammer hits against the concrete block. Make sure you have a tight grip on the drill before you press the trigger.

Step 4: Push the drill down into the brick to make the hole deeper. Keep the hammer bit pressed firmly against the concrete block.

Step 5: Allow the drill to break completely through the concrete block. This may take several minutes, but eventually it will drill all the way through. Repeat these steps to drill as many holes in as many concrete bricks as you desire.
