How to Drill Into Concrete
Whether you are drilling in your basement floor or garage floor, you will have to drill into concrete. Drilling into concrete is not the same as drilling into wood floor or walls. It may not be the same but it is still easy to accomplish. All you need is a drill and drill bit to get into the concrete, but learn the proper technique to ensure safety.
Materials Needed
- Hammer drill
- Carbide masonry bit
- Masking tape
- Broom
- Vacuum
1. You will use a hammer drill to accomplish the drilling. Attach a carbide masonry bit into the hammer drill.
2. Make sure the hammer drill turned to the highest setting possible. Make a starter hole in the area you be drilling into.
3. Tape a piece of masking tape on the drill bit. The amount of tape used should match the deepness of the hole you will drill. The masking tape will keep you from going too deep into the concrete.
4. Place the drill over the hole and being to drill slowly. Do not push hard on the drill. Use a broom to remove the dust from the hole in the concrete.
5. Begin drilling the hole again. Keep the drill straight as you drill. Try not to hold the drill too high, too low or off to the side.
6. Use a bigger drill bit than the one you are using. Begin to drill the hole again as before. Pull the drill bit out regularly and sweep away the dust. This will also keep the drill from overheating.
7. Use a vacuum to clear away any dust and debris.
