How to Hook Up a Dual 2-Ohm Subwoofer

Dual 2-Ohm subwoofers are used in many car audio systems. They can also be found in some types of home audio systems. The 2-Ohm means the subwoofer is more powerful than a 1-Ohm and can help produce more sound.

  1. Arrange your audio system. If it is being installed in a vehicle, connect all the speakers, and place the amplifier and subwoofer in the desired location. If the audio system is being installed in a home, arrange the system as desired.

  2. Measure the distance between the amplifier and the subwoofer. Measure and cut the speaker wire to fit the distance. You will need to cut two pieces of speaker wire to connect the devices.

  3. Locate the 2-Ohm dual-voice coil subwoofer's speaker wire terminals. They should be on the back or side of the subwoofer, depending on the brand and model. The positive terminal will be labeled with a (+) sign, and the negative cable will be labeled with a (-) sign.

  4. Use the speaker wire to connect the subwoofer to the amplifier. Wrap one end of a piece of speaker wire around the first positive terminal on the subwoofer. Wrap the opposite end of the speaker wire around the positive terminal of the amplifier. Repeat to connect the negative terminals of the amplifier and subwoofer.

  5. Use a second piece of speaker wire to connect the second positive terminal of the subwoofer to the negative speaker terminal on the subwoofer.

  6. Finish installing the audio system and power it on to test the connection.
