How to Install Outdoor Speakers
Installing outdoor speakers is time consuming, but it is possible to do the job without paying for an electrician. The area where the speakers are mounted outside will help to determine the right size to buy. Most outdoor speakers come with mounting brackets and detailed instructions on how to perform the installation.
Items Needed:
- Measuring tape
- Drill
- Wood screws
- Mounting brackets
- Speaker wire
- Staple gun
- Inspect the area where you want to install outdoor speakers to find the best place to mount them. For example, if your want the speakers on a covered patio, decide the locations to put them. You can determine what size speakers to buy once you know exactly where you are going to mount them.
- Buy the outdoor speakers and make sure they come with mounting brackets and screws. Ask a salesperson at the store where you buy the speakers how difficult it is to mount them and ask for some tips. Unpack the box once you get home and read the manual to find out what tools you need to install the speakers.
- Gather your tools and take the speakers outside. Mount the speakers on your patio or other location you choose by drilling holes for the screws. Attach the speakers and use a screwdriver to secure the screws into the mounting bracket.
- Measure how much speaker wire you need in order to hook the speakers up to your stereo or other sound source. Wire your speakers to the device by following the connection instructions. Bundle any excess speaker wire with a twist tie and place it behind your sound device.
- Fasten the speaker wire around the patio trim or other outdoor structure by using a staple gun. Be careful not to cut the wire when you use the staple gun. Make sure the sound plays through each of the speakers to finish the job.
