How to Wire Outdoor Speakers With Four Wires
Outdoor speakers always bring the party to a patio. Loudspeakers that are weather-resistant can be mounted under eaves of a back deck or installed on the corners of the deck platform. Swivel mounts allow the speakers to be turned in multiple directions.
Supplies:
- Speaker wire
- Wire strippers
- Stereo receiver
- Electric drill and bits
- Staple gun and staples
- Two outdoor speakers
- Tape measure
Instructions:
- Measure out the distance between the outside speaker and the stereo receiver inside where the speaker wires can be connected. Make sure you measure angles and along walls because wires can’t be installed in a straight line from the speakers to the receiver.
- Take about a 1/2-inch of insulation from each pair of speaker wires.
- Join two wires to the back of each speaker by attaching the red wire to the right terminal and the black wire to the negative terminal. Complete the connection by lifting a spring clip on the back of the speaker, there is a hole for inserting the wire.
- Put the speaker wires under a deck through gaps in the wood or by drilling a hole in one of the decking planks behind the speakers. Run the wires under the deck and back to the house through the closest window.
- Open the window to run the speaker wires through a lower corner along the windowsill, and all the way down to the baseboard.
- Join the wires to the baseboard by slipping them under carpet or attaching with a staple gun.
- Attach the speaker wires to a pair of left and right speaker connections on the back of the receiver. Make sure you join the wire from the left outdoor speaker to the left channel on the receiver.
