Position the mantel over the center of the fireplace and use a level to ensure the mantel is level. Leave clearance to keep the mantel from being burned or damaged.
Using a pencil mark the position of the mantel. Lay the fireplace mantel to the side.
Measure the fireplace mantel's dimensions with a tape measure. Use a circular saw to cut the wood the same size and the fireplace mantel.
Use pencil to mark areas on the wall for the wood pieces, which will provide the clearance between the wall and fireplace mantel.
Hold the wood pieces to the wall and drill holes through them with a hammer drill. Make sure to drill through brick. Screw the screws through the wood pieces and brick with a screwdriver.
