How to Optimize Surround Sound
When you get your surround sound completely hooked up and turned on, it may not sound the way you want it to. There are some things you can do to balance the sound out to make it sound the best. You can learn how to optimize surround sound in a few short steps.
- Look at the room where the surround sound system is. A square room works best, but surround sound systems can be made to work in any size room. You need to understand how the sound is going to work in the room. Some expensive surround sound systems have their own “white noise” generator, and calculate the speaker distance that you should have using a microphone.
- Start with the speakers on the right and left. Make sure these two speakers are far enough apart so you can clearly hear sounds coming from each of them. You do not want the sound mushed together.
- Put in the middle speaker in your surround sound system. It is important where you place the center speaker. In many cases, people set this speaker below or above the television.
- Place the surround sound speakers to the right and left of where people will be sitting is best to optimize the sound.
- Place the subwoofer anywhere you like. Many times it works great in a corner, but you can also sit it near where people sit for optimal sound. Move it around until you find the place where it sounds best in the room.
- Test the system out. Turn on your surround sound and sit where people will be sitting. Adjust the adjustment levels until it sounds good to you. You may need to move speakers around if it does not sound right to you.
