How to Get Surround Sound on TV
Surround sound systems can be connected to televisions and home theater devices. They not only make the volume louder; they spread the audio evenly around the room. This creates a better, more consistent sound and often makes movies and television shows more enjoyable.
- Check that the surround sound has been properly installed. Check behind each speaker, the receiver box, subwoofer and television to make sure all the connections are secure. If you have not yet installed the surround sound, consult the user's manual and do so.
- Turn on the television. Click on the "Input" or "Menu" button on your television or remote.
- Use the arrow buttons on the remote to go through the different menu options. Highlight the "Audio" option and press the "Enter" or "Select" button.
- Use the arrow keys to highlight the "Audio Out" or "Digital Audio Out" option. Press "Enter" to select it.
- Use the arrow to highlight the "Dolby Digital Out" option. Press "Enter" to select it.
- Turn on the surround sound system. This can be done by pressing the button or switch on the receiver that is labeled "Power." Locate the button or switch that powers on the "Dolby" part of the surround sound system. This switch will be labeled with the word "Dolby."
- Wait for the surround sound system to identify the television and begin working. Use the knobs on the receiver to control the volume of the surround sound. You can also adjust the base and treble of the system.
