How to Resurface a Concrete Driveway

The driveway is commonly made of concrete, which can be resurfaced if cracks appear on it. If the cracks have not gone entirely through the driveway, they can be resurfaced. You will need to set aside many hours in the day to accomplish the task. This method has become common among many homeowners who want to create a different look.

How to Resurface a Concerete Driveway

Materials Needed

  • Power washer

  • Water

  • Concrete resurfacer

  • Large bucket

  • Corded drill with a paddle mixer

  • Trowel

  • Broom made with nylon

  • Foam weather stripping

  1. Wash the driveway thoroughly with the power washer. This will remove all dirt and debris. Make sure the power washer is at least 8 inches from the surface while cleaning it.

  2. Pour 1 part water to 7 parts concrete resurfacer into a large bucket. Use a corded drill with a paddle mixer attached to it to blend the ingredients.

  3. Scoop up some of the mixture with a trowel and place it into the areas with recesses. Smooth mixture out and allow it to dry for not more than five hours.

  4. Apply foam weather stripping to all of the joints on the driveway.

  5. Take the bucket with the water and the concrete resurfacer and pour it over the entire driveway. Mix more resurface by following Step 2 if you need more.

  6. Apply the resurfacer so it is about ¼ inch thick and allow it to dry for 30 minutes.

  7. Spread the resurfacer with a broom that has nylon bristles. Allow the driveway to dry for 30 minutes.

  8. Take the foam weather stripping from the joints. You may have to wet the weather stripping to remove it.

  9. Allow the driveway to for about three days. If rain is in the forecast, cover the driveway with a plastic cover.
