Resurfacing a patio has become popular for homeowners who want to transform the look of their patio. Once the process is complete, the homeowner can add decorations or tint to the concrete patio.
How to Resurface a Concrete Patio
Materials Needed
- Pressure washer
- Water
- Concrete resurfacer
- Bucket
- Paddle mixer
- Corded drill
- Trowel
- Foam weather stripping
- Broom with nylon bristles
1. Use a pressure washer to clean the concrete patio. Hold the pressure washer 6 to 8 inches from the concrete patio.
2. Mix 1 part water and 7 parts concrete resurfacer in a bucket. Mix the ingredients with a paddle mixer that is connected to a corded drill.
3. Use a trowel to fill in any recesses in the concrete patio. Allow the area to dry for five hours.
4. Fill in the joints with foam weather stripping. The peel and stick weather-stripping will work better. Wet the concrete patio if necessary to remove the weather stripping.
5. Pour the concrete resurfacer over the area. Follow Step 2 if more resurfacer is needed.
6. The resurfacer should be no more than ¼ inch thick. Allow it to sit for five minutes.
7. Use a broom with nylon bristles to go over the area. Go over the area with the broom about 90 degrees to foot traffic. Allow the resurfacer to sit for 20 minutes.
8. Remove the foam weather stripping. You can walk on the concrete patio after six hours. Cover the area if there is rain in the forecast.
