How to Seal a Concrete Bird Bath
If you want to keep a bird bath from cracking or becoming damaged from the weather elements, seal it. This keeps the bird bath looking good so the birds can use it for years to come. You want to avoid using toxic sealers because they can harm the birds. The task does not take long but it may require a lot of drying time.
Materials Needed:
- Citrus cleaner
- Scrub brush
- Garden hose
- Water
- Non-toxic sealer
- Cloth
- Paintbrush
Instructions:
1. Use a citrus cleaner and a scrub brush to clean the bird bath. The citrus cleaner is non-toxic and does not harm the birds.
2. Use a garden hose to thoroughly rinse the bird bath. Remove all traces of the cleaner.
3. Allow the sun to dry the bird bath all day. This allows the bird bath to completely dry so the sealer can be applied.
4. Take the bird bath to the garage. Cover a flat workspace with a cloth. Place the bird bath on the cloth.
5. Use a paintbrush to coat the entire bird bath with a non-toxic sealer. Apply a second coat. Allow the bird bath to dry for two days.
6. Replace the bird bath in the garden. Fill it with water from the garden hose.
