How to Stamp a Concrete Design
Concrete stamping is a great way to give your new patio a unique look. Concrete stamping can be used on driveways, patios and sidewalks. It is a great way to add some beauty without breaking the bank. Here's how to do it.
Supplies
- Concrete stamp
- Plastic knife
- Wait until the concrete is partially dry. This will allow the designs to be more precise with cleaner lines.
- The concrete should have a consistency a little less firmer than artist's clay. Check before beginning by pushing on it with your finger. When an impression is made the concrete is ready for stamping.
- Position the stamp in the location it will be placed.
- Be sure it is exactly where you want it, it can't be redone once stamped. Press the stamp into the concrete. Keep firm and even pressure on all sides as you make your impression. Try to make it as deep as possible without displacing the existing concrete and distorting your design.
- Remove the stamp from the concrete by pulling it straight up. The stamp must be removed cleanly to hold the design's integrity.
- Check the stamped impression for any errors. Don't worry about small imperfections, they often disappear when the concrete is completely dry. Large flaws or dislodged pieces of concrete can be mended with the plastic knife.
- Use the back side of it to re-sculpt the concrete and repair the imprefection. Work carefully and slowly and do the best you can. It is important to make the area look better, not worse.
