How to Start a Fondue Pot With Alcohol

Fondue is an interesting way to serve all sorts of foods. You can choose to dip your choice of foods into heated cheese or chocolate depending on the food type and your personal preference. In order to heat the chocolate or cheese, you will need to heat up the fondue pot using alcohol.

  1. Make sure that you place your fondue pot somewhere safe. The surface in which it is placed should be flat and away from all flammable objects. A kitchen table or counter will both work well for setting up your fondue pot.

  2. Fill up the spot on your fondue pot where the fuel is held. This is usually located on the bottom of the pot. Take care not to overfill your fuel reservoir; this could cause a fire hazard. Typically an average fondue pot fuel reservoir will hold between two and four ounces of alcohol. If you are unsure how much alcohol is needed, consult your owner’s manual that came with your fondue set.

  3. Place the cap back on your alcohol and replace it where it belongs. You do not want to light your fondue pot with your open bottle of alcohol anywhere nearby. This could be extremely dangerous.

  4. Light an electric barbecue grill lighter or a long match, and light the alcohol fuel source. Be careful not to have your face close by when lighting your fondue pot.

  5. Adjust the lid to the burner of your fondue pot in order to adjust the level of flame that your fondue pot is exposed to. You do not want your chocolate or cheese to scorch, only to stay nice and hot. For this you should heat the sauce to hot, and then reduce the amount of flame allowed to hit the bottom of the fondue pot so that it maintains the desired temperature.
