Clay is a part of the Syracuse metro area of New York, and lies north of Onondaga Lake. Clay is home to the Great Northern Mall, and known as a retail hub for the northwest suburbs. The largest town in its county, the Oneida and Seneca Rivers intersect here, and the Erie Canal passes through as well. The town is believed to have been first settled in 1791, and was a part of the former Central New York Military Tract, a parcel of land that was given to former Revolutionary War Soldiers.
