About Fayette, NY
Fayette is a town in Senecar County, New York. It is on the western border of the county. Stop by for a quick lunch at Connie's Diner or another local favorite at Star Diner. The town was established in 1800 as the “Town of Washington” but got its current name in 1803. On April 6, 1830 Joseph Smith, Jr. along with Peter Whitmer, Sr. organized the Church of Christ, later to be known as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in a log home. In 1980 the log home was reconstructed and was dedicated as part of the sesquicentennial celebrations of the LDS church founding. The Whitmer log home continues to be operated as a religious site by the LDS Church. Another person to make not e of is Red Jacket, “Saguwatha”, the Seneca chief was born here.
