The town of Genoa, named for the city in Italy, is located on Big Salmon Creek in Cayuga County, New York, in the Auburn metro area. Major area attractions are the Genoa Rural Life Museum, an 1840's restored one room school and 1810 Pioneer Barn and the Smith's General Store Museum, which is open by appointment only. The Wheat Harvest Festival is held here each year. Businesses in Genoa include Ag-Trac and Beyea Performance Fabrication. One of the best places to visit when you are in Genoa is the nearby Taughannock Falls State Park, with falls that plunge 215 feet past rocky cliffs towering nearly 400 feet above the gorge and with a beach, swimming, fishing, boating, hiking, picnic areas and a playground.
