About Lima, NY
Lima is part of the Rochester metro area of New York. It was first called Charleston, but the name was later changed to Lima in order to pay homage to the many early settlers who came from Old Lyme, Connecticut. Originally home to the Seneca Indians, by the 1830's Lima had grown to include shops, mills and a post office. Attractions in Lima include the Lima Golf and Country Club and the Mark Tubbs Memorial Park. The Genesee Wesleyan Seminary in Lima was one of the first co-educational schools in the United States. Genesee Community College recently completed building a satellite campus in Lima. Famous persons from Lima include Henry Jarvis Raymond, founder of the New York Times.
