Watkins Glen Destination Weddings

Planning a wedding or party in Watkins Glen Speak to any one who has visited Watkins Glen New York during tourist season and they will tell you it is one of the prettiest places in New York State. The area is filled with rolling hills covered with wineries and waterfalls. There are plenty of attractions including the magnificent Seneca Lake. Seneca Lake is The largest of the Finger Lakes and makes a lovely back drop for weddings or any party for that matter. One of the best views of Seneca Lake in my opinion is often overlooked when it comes to wedding locations. During the spring and summer the spacious lush green landscape of Clute Park with its giant weeping willows provides an inspiring peaceful atmosphere. There is plenty of room to set up a party tent for a wedding or party of any size. There is also an enclosed pavilion available as well. http://www.watkinsglen.us/parks.htm (607) 535-2736 If you are looking for a more privet setting with a lake view there are several wineries close by with excellent views including Glenora http://www.glenora.com (800)-243-5513 and Ginny Lee at Wagner's Vineyards http://www.wagnervineyards.com/TheGinnyLee (866) 924-6378, just north of Watkins Glen on either side of the lake. There is also Castel Grisch http://www.castelgrisch.com (607) 535-9614 up the hill a bit farther on the west side. For a classier setting you may want to consider the new Watkins Glen Harbor Hotel http://www.watkinsglenharborhotel.com (607) 535-6116. It has a nice patio overlooking the harbor where outdoor weddings are held. Its two elegant ball rooms have spacious ceilings and can be opened up into one big hall for large events. Right next to the Harbor Hotel is the former Watkins Glen Train station that has been transformed into a restaurant (Seneca Harbor Station) http://www.senecaharborstation.com It provides the same great view of the Harbor as the Hotel with a patio as well. Again right next door is Captain Bill's with several party cruse boats if you wish to take your wedding or event out on the lake. http://www.senecaharborstation.com/index.asp?pageId=134 (607) 535-6101 They have their own catering services for the boats which are also very good. If you are looking for a more traditional church or wedding chapel setting the area offers several very old beautiful churches. If you travel just less than five minutes south down RT 14 from Watkins Glen you will find a quiet little town called Montour Falls. There you will find on the corner of South and Canal Street the First Baptist Church of Montour Falls. A very large over 125 year old brick church able to seat around 250 people. It has tall stain glass windows a high 4 story sealing and a large platform able to accommodate wedding parties of almost any size. The rental fees are very reasonable and they do not require membership to use their facilities. You can provide your own officiator or the pastor will be more than happy to perform the service for you. For inquiries you can call (607)535-7310. After Your ceremony step back in time with a carriage ride from the Hall Family Clydesdales Carriage Rides (607) 594-2827 joicly@stny.rr.com a short trip down the street will take you to the falls for pictures. This is also a popular place for outdoor weddings. If you are a race fan you may want to consider having your party at the Watkins Glen International http://www.theglen.com/About-The-Glen/Facility-Rentals.aspx (607) 535-2486 x208. They recently built a new facility that includes a track side party room. They also have plenty of beautiful camp grounds if you wish to put up a party tent. Special tour laps on the track can be arranged for you and your guest too for a truly special and exciting experience. If the outdoors is your thing you may want to consider one of two other local parks in the area; the Watkins Glen State Park http://nysparks.state.ny.us/parks/142/details.aspx (607) 535-4511 and Havana Glen http://local.yahoo.com/info-11797545-havana-glen-park-montour-falls (607) 535-9476.
