Taking a New Direction

We've taken the hotel and restaurant to a new level over the past four years. We are now playing host to family reunions, weddings, ski clubs, motorcycle groups and many other kinds of smaller gatherings. At the Lodge, you'll see a redesigned lobby and front desk when you enter. In the Fall and Winter you'll feel and smell the wood-burning stove. There's a coffee station, leather sofa and loveseat, a flat screen t.v., a new front desk made from rough-cut local lumber and much more. We've added gas and electronic fireplaces to more than a dozen rooms in the Deluxe Lodge, as well as Keurig coffeemakers. Standard Lodge and all cabins and cottages have been renovated, too. Changes at Kindred Spirits Steakhouse&Pub; have taken it from a popular waffle house to a great space to enjoy intimate live musical performances each weekend. There's a lighted bandstand with a baby grand piano and drum kit, a service bar and an outdoor dining patio covered with a rich red, gold and brown canopy. The music scene is always happening as we promote local folk, country, bluegrass and jazz ensembles. So, you can enjoy fine music but not be overwhelmed by the volume as most of our performers play acoustically or with minimal amplification. Oh, did we forget to mention the Pub, which boasts 13 microbrews on tap, a real wood-burning fireplace and an Off Track Betting teletheater that features track odds? Kindred Spirits' core menu is traditional steakhouse but with the added spice of authentic curry dishes and daily specials. We still serve the best breakfast in the area on weekends, We're open for lunch and dinner every day but Tuesday. Our guiding vision is to celebrate the little known history of our hamlet, Palenville, which was the first artists' colony in the United States. Palenville nurtured the artists of the Hudson River School in the mid 1800's and remains a gathering spot for artists to this day. The natural beauty of the area has always been an inspiration. Indeed, the name Kindred Spirits came from the iconic 1849 painting that depicted painter Thomas Cole and poet William Jennings Bryant surrounded by the hills, trees, rocks, waterfalls and creeks for which Palenville is known. We at the Lodge encourage the creative spirit by creating venues for live musical performances, including outdoor concerts, as well as plays, sculpture shows and art exhibitions.
