About Ridgewood, NY
Ridgewood, a neighborhood in New York City, borders Maspeth, Glendale and Middle Village in the Borough of Queens and Bushwick in the Borough of Brooklyn. Historically straddling the Brooklyn-Queens boundary, Ridgewood is now considered entirely a part of Queens, and the large hill on which it is located is a remnant of the glacial moraine which originally created Long Island. Ridgewood's main shopping areas are found on Myrtle Avenue and Fresh Pond Road, and important local businesses include Polite Plumbing & Heating and Bora Auto Repair Inc. While the area is served by nine elementary and two middle schools, the single high school in Ridgewood is Grover Cleveland. From 1886 to 1889, the Brooklyn Bridegrooms played ball on Sundays in Ridgewood Park. This team later came to be known as the famous Brooklyn Dodgers. The numerous major movies which have been shot on location in Ridgewood include Brighton Beach Memoirs, The French Connection, The Wanderers, A Stranger Among Us, Jerky Boys: The Movie, and Beat Street.
