About Saint Albans, NY
Saint Albans is a community in the New York City borough of Queens. The neighborhood is part of the Queens Community Board and has its own zip code. The area was settled as part of a land grant by Dutch farmers in 1655, and like much of queens stayed relatively rural until the late 1800s. Saint Albans is known for having been home to many famous jazz musicians, including Count Bassie, Miles Davis, and Ella Fitzgerald. Each year the community hosts Irie Jamboree in Roy Wilkins Park, an act that features top reggae acts. The biggest schools here are the St. Albans School and Pathways College Prepatory School. Some well known contemporary past and current residents include Al Roker, Floyd Patterson, and the members of the musical group, A Tribe Called Quest.
