About Silver Lake, NY
Silver Lake is a town in Sullivan County, New York and is located just southeast of the village of Woodridge. It was created in the 1840's when Sandburg Creek did not provide reliable water for the "summit" section of the Delaware and Hudson Canal, between Wursboro and Napanoch. The lake was closed and initially called Woods Lake. In 1999 the village sought and received state and federal grants to repair the dam and restore the lake. The village ran into a setback when they still did not have enough to afford the budget for this project. The village is in the process of building a wastewater treatment plant that will discharge into the lake along the south side just past its park. Major attractions include Letchworth State Park and Silver Lake Twin Drive-In. Each year in Silver Lake, during the summer there is The Silver Lake "Ring of Fire" always on July 3rd and The Silver Lake Boat Parade always is on the 4th of July. The local businesses include Camp Asbury and Community Mutual Savings Bank. The biggest schools in Sliver Lake are Sullivan County Community College and Sullivan West Elementary School. One of the best places to visit when you are in Silver Lake is The Silver Lake Country Club.
