About Wading River, NY
Located in Suffolk County on Long Island, Wading River is a small hamlet of about 7,000 people overlooking the azure Atlantic Ocean. The name of the town is adapted from the Native American word that means to “wade in the river looking for shells.” At about 10 square miles in area, Wading River, NY boasts a beautiful park called Wildwood State Park along with an ample amount of cliff side cottages, bountiful seafood and sparkling beaches. The hamlet has an interesting history as it was chosen as a place to live by only 8 families and was never infiltrated until the summer of 1947. One of the best places to visit is the state park which is only a short drive from the center of town. The hamlet is mainly residential and the commute to New York City is relatively short. They enjoy splendid summers accompanied by a warm breeze right off of the ocean.
