Wells is located in Hamilton County, New York. At the 2000 census the population was listed at 737. Wells is named after Joshua Wells who built the first mills in the area. The town is within the bounds of Adirondack Park and was founded in 1805. In 1986 a Massachusetts Air National Guard plane crash occurred in the town when two of four planes involved in a training mission crashed into the Adirondack Mountains. This incident is thought to have inspired a later two part episode of the television show the X-Files. Area attractions include Lake Algonquin, Hamilton Lake, and Wilcox Lake. Wells businesses include Lakeside General Store, Wells Quarry, and Americana Flag and Pole Company.
