About Clinton, TN
Someone wrote about the High School bombing in Clinton which has very little to do with the real City of Clinton's history. It's an anomaly that has become a politically correct version of a story that has many different views. One view I have heard from people that actually attended the high School that was "Bombed", is the sincere belief that the government actually was the responsible party for the bombing. It all has NOTHING to do with Merchant Circle and what the City of Clinton is about .
So here is what was written originally? "Clinton is a city in Anderson County, Tennessee and is situated on the Clinch River. The mouth of the Clinch River is the Tennessee River, located upstream. In 1956, Clinton gained national attention desegregation was opposed of Clinton High School. After the U.S. Supreme Court decision in the case of Brown v. Board of Education, the courts required the desegregation of the high school. Twelve African-American students enrolled in the high school in the fall of 1956 making them the first African-Americans to desegregate a state-supported public school in the Southeast. Riots broke out forcing the governort to station National Guard units. In 1958, there was a bombing of Clinton High School but it was quickly rebuilt. Famous people from Clinton include John C. Houk - Member of the United States House of Representatives and The McKameys - Southern Gospel group."
I strongly disagree with perpetuating the myth that Clinton is identified by a civil rights situation that happened 50 years ago. It's only a waste of time to continue perpetuating that theme.
