Macon is a small town located in Fayette County, Tennessee and is part of the Memphis metro area. The town was named for the congressman Nathaniel Macon. When in the area, be sure to visit the Children’s Museum of Memphis, located within 30 miles of Macon. Families may also enjoy spending a day at the Memphis Zoo, another attraction located 30 miles away. History buffs will love to visit the historic Ames Plantation. The site is home to 19th century cotton plantations and includes a restored manor house, a store and a church. Outdoor lovers will enjoy spending some time in the parks of the area. Some nice ones to visit include Chickasaw State Park, Fort Pillow State Park, and Fuller State Park, all located within 40 miles of Macon. Fort Pillow State Park is located on the Chickasaw Bluffs overlooking the Mississippi River. It offers a museum, camping, boating, fishing, hiking trails and picnic areas. A local college in the area is Crichton College. The college sports fans can cheer for their favorite team, the Cardinals. The school district in the area is the Fayette County School District.
