How to Remove Road Salt From Car Mats
Road salt is used to dissolve the snow so the roads are not as slick. This salt can be easily tracked on the mats inside your automobile. Once the road salt dries, it forms hard deposits that can be hard to remove.
Materials Needed
- Vacuum with hose
- Bucket
- Water
- Mild liquid dish detergent
- White distilled vinegar
- Gloves
- Scrub brush
- Garden hose
- Take the mats out of the auto. Shake the mats to remove any loose debris from them. This will make the cleaning easier.
- Attach a hose to a vacuum. Power on the vacuum and clean the car mats. This will suck all of the salt from the car mats.
- Fill a bucket with 1 gallon warm water. Mix in 1 teaspoon mild liquid dish detergent and ¼ cup white distilled vinegar. Put on gloves to protect your hands. Swish a scrub brush around in the bucket to blend the liquids.
- Place the mats on a flat surface. Use the scrub brush and cleaning solution to clean the mats. Use circular motions as you clean them. Pay particular attentions to the areas that have tough spots.
- Allow the cleaning solution to sit on the car mats for 30 minutes. Clean the mats again with the cleaning solution and scrub brush. The mats should be saturated when you are finished cleaning them.
- Turn on the garden hose and rinse the cleaning solution from the car mats. Hang the car mats up in the sunlight so they can dry. Place the mats in the car once they are completely dry.
